Edit: Allright. I still got a notification to update:( But that didn't stop me. I went back to the folder and saw a new.exe file which had something to do with the update (sorry, forgot to memorize it's name).
So I repeated 9th step - I changed it's permissions. I denied full control. Also, I opened up instver.dat with a text editor and deleted everything it had in it (one line).

Not everyone agrees on progress so it's only natural to have some dissent whenever new features are added or removed. I'm not a huge advocate of this because it causes headaches for developers later on. Even so, this update is unusually aggravating and I don't think many users will be happy with it.
